CDA Subject Area 3. Supporting children’s social and emotional development

This CDA Subject Area 3 course, participants will receive 15 hours of training in Supporting Children's Social and Emotional Development. This training helps educators learn the necessary methods for facilitating language development, fostering the development of dual language learners, and creating meaningful relationships with families. 


WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The course can be taken at your own pace and all results are recorded electronically. In order to obtain your certificate you must first successfully complete these topics:

  1. View and complete the e-learning
  2. Achieve a score of at least 80% in the quiz
  3. Complete and submit the feedback form

Once these activities are marked complete your certificate will be available to download and print.



Module 1: Self

In this module, we will explore the following ways in which you can help children develop a strong sense of self:

  • Understanding the Emotional Development of Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
  • Promoting Children's Sense of Self
  • Helping Children Develop Self-Esteem
  • Guiding Children in Expressing Their Feelings
  • Helping Each Child Flourish



Module 2: Social

In this module, we will examine five basic components involved in helping children develop social skills:

  • Understanding the Social Development of Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
  • Using the Environment to Encourage Positive Social Interactions
  • Supporting Children's Play
  • Encouraging Children's Positive Relationships
  • Fostering Prosocial Behavior



Module 3: Guidance

In this module, you will learn six important things you can do to maintain a responsive, caring environment that teaches children how to use positive behavior:

  • Setting the Stage for Positive Behavior
  • Using Positive Guidance as a Teaching Strategy
  • Understanding and Addressing Challenging Behaviors
  • Replacing Time-Out with Time-In
  • Stopping Bullying Behaviors Among Preschoolers
  • Partnering With Families
