CDA Subject Area 1. Planning a safe and healthy learning environment

The CDA Subject Area 1 course outlines to ensure that every candidate will receive 15 hours of training in Planning a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment. This training helps educators learn the necessary methods for ensuring the safety of the children in their classroom, recognizing and protecting children from harmful exposures, and creating a safe learning experience.


WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The course can be taken at your own pace and all results are recorded electronically. In order to obtain your certificate you must first successfully complete these topics:

  1. View and complete the e-learning
  2. Achieve a score of at least 80% in the quiz
  3. Complete and submit the feedback form

Once these activities are marked complete your certificate will be available to download and print.



Module 1: Safe

In this module, we examine five strategies for ensuring children's safety while in your care:

  • Keeping Children Physically Safe
  • Teaching Children about Safety
  • Modeling Safe Practices
  • Responding to Injuries and Emergencies
  • Engaging Families in Safe Practices


Module 2: Healthy


In this module, we will spell out this guidance while exploring a number of important aspects involved in keeping children healthy:

  • Promoting Wellness
  • Supporting Wellness During Routines
  • Responding to Illness
  • Helping Children Develop Good Health Practices
  • Partnering with Families



Module 3: Learning Environment

 In this module, you will learn how the following critical elements work together to create an effective learning environment:

  • Designing an Environment to Promote Development and Learning
  • Selecting Appropriate Materials
  • Planning Curricula for Children
  • Developing the Daily Schedule
  • Implementing the Daily Schedule
